Starting Fall 2024 we have our debut WMC Craft Club! The last Tuesday of the month during dead hour (11-12) come to the WMC to work on a BYO project, or group semesterly project!

Affirmation Station at the Student Services Fair!

The 2025 Student Services Fair is a great opportunity for university departments to connect with students, share valuable resources, and promote programs and services. The WMC will also be providing materials to create, share and wear positive affirmation bracelets throughout your semester!

WMC Financial Wellness, Session One: Building Credit

September 3, 4:00-5:15pm, Bell Hall 260

 

We'll kick off our workshop series by chatting about one of the most important ways to set yourself up for financial success: building credit. Credit is crucial to all kinds of financial transactions, from financing a car (or house!) to renting an apartment. Dr. Alma Nuñez, Professor of Finance in Tech's College of Business, will be leading our workshop.  RSVP Here!

Fall Attune

Attune Pitch Deadline!

September 19th, by end of day.

Attune is the Women's Center Journal, a student-edited publication that focuses on contemporary issues.  Learn more about Attune and the Fall Schedule here!

We accept non-fiction articles and essays, creative non-fiction, fiction, poetry, photography, and other art in any medium that can be printed in our pages.  Final contributions should be no more than 750 words or a single 8 1/2 by 11 spread. Contributors may submit multiple pieces for consideration, which should be indicated at the pitch stage. Fall 2025 Theme: Safe spaces/ Path(s) to belonging

Pitches for contributions should be submitted via email to the executive editor by the current semester's pitch deadline. Pitches should be 100-200 words describing the contribution and include the author's affiliation (Tech student, staff, faculty, or community member). Craft Club: September Meeting

Aimed to give a dedicated time and space, once a month, for creative engagement, peer connection and collaboration. Much like our past "socials" but with a creative twist!

Many of us crafters, craft alone and maybe only at home. The WMC Craft Club is hoping to connect those people, while also being able to share and learn potential new skills! Bring your own project from home, or work on a semesterly group project. Secure storage available!

HEIDI LEWIS

Hip Hop with Dr. Heidi Lewis, Make Rappers Rap Again: Interrogating the Mumble Rap Crisis

October 2nd, 6:00pm, Stonecipher Lecture Hall 113

Dr. Heidi Lewis will be a featured speaker on campus, delivering a lecture on hip-hop in support of her new book, Make Rappers Rap Again: Interrogating the Mumble Rap Crisis. 

This event is in part to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop
and the contribution of Southern rappers. Dr. Lewis is the author
of the text Make Rappers Rap Again: Interrogating the Mumble Rap
Crisis (Oxford University Press) which examines the current trend
that has inundated and at the same time trivialized hip-hop. In her
lecture she discusses southern rappers and their role and impact
in the latest inaudibility trend but how they have helped redefine
the genre with their regional dialects.

Financial Wellness Session 2: Creating Financial Security

October 1, 4:00-5:15, Bell Hall 260

In this session, we will discuss how to create a secure financial base for yourself as you look ahead to the possibilities of family life, joint finances, and preparing for the unexpected in those areas. What sorts of things can you do to create financial stability for yourself and loved ones just in case family or household dynamics change? Jenna Matthews, legal assistant with Looper Law and current law student, with experience helping domestic violence survivors navigate the court system, will be joining us to  lead our session.

Center Stage Presents: Jennie Case

October 14th, 7:00pm, Bell Hall Auditorium 

 Jennifer Case is an Associate Professor of Creative Writing at the University
of Central Arkansas in Conway, Arkansas. She is the author of two books,
Sawbill: A Search for Place, and We Are Animals: On the Nature and Politics
of Motherhood, which was published by Trinity University Press in September
2024.  Case will give an open public reading from We Are Animals:
On the Nature and Politics of Motherhood, which will be available before
her on-campus event.

Financial Wellness Session 3: So now you have a real job!

This session is geared to help you navigate starting a new job. Now, you'll need to consider benefits, and you will be in a place to budget your own full-time income for (perhaps) the first time. We'll discuss things to think about with benefits and ways to try budgeting--beyond a spreadsheet! Dr. Allison Toth, Assistant Professor of Decision Sciences and Management, will be leading our discussion.

Period Poverty, Join the Fight!

Period Poverty Pack Assembly & Holiday Social

December 4th, 11:00-1:00pm, Tech Pride Room

Period poverty is prevalent all around us. Many people who menstruate struggle to afford period products during their monthly cycle. Here at the Women's Center, we recognize period poverty for what it is—a public health crisis. Join us in our fight against period poverty by participating in our period poverty drive.
