Frequently Asked Questions for Current Students

Application Information:
- » Where can I find / submit a housing application?
Visit the Application Page.
- » Are housing applications open to continuing Tennessee Tech students who do not currently
live in University Housing?
For specific information about housing processes, room selection, eligibility, and requirements, please refer to the Application Page. Each page outlines the steps and criteria for its respective term, including important dates, waiting list details, and how to secure your booking.
- » Will additional spaces become available, or can I change my room?
Cancellations happen occasionally, which means rooms can open up throughout the process. If you've already completed room selection, you may still have the opportunity to switch rooms—just log back into the housing application to check for available spaces. Room changes are only allowed for a limited time, so don’t wait! - » Can I apply to Tech Village Apartments?

- » What if I have a disability housing accommodation request or emotional support animal
request?
If you have a physical disability or medical condition that requires special consideration in your housing assignment—including requests for Emotional Support Animals (ESAs)—you must first register with the Accessible Education Center (AEC).
Housing accommodations can only be provided AFTER your registration and approval through the AEC.
Payment Information:
- » Do I have to pay a prepayment?
Students who receive a time slot to select a room must submit a $200 prepayment within 5 days after completing the room selection. ONCE YOU HAVE SELECTED A ROOM AND MADE THE $200 PREPAYMENT YOU HAVE ENTERED INTO A BINDING CONTRACT AND ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR CANCELATION. This payment will be applied toward your housing account balance. You cannot use scholarships or financial aid to make this payment.
- » Can I make payments on my housing cost?
The Bursar’s Office offers an approved Deferred Payment Plan for eligible students. This plan allows you to make installment payments throughout the semester instead of paying your full balance upfront.

I've Applied, now what do I do?
- » I’ve completed my application. When will I receive confirmation of my assignment?
Once you complete your housing application, you’ll receive a confirmation email to your Tennessee Tech email, verifying that it’s been submitted. However, please note that completing the application does not guarantee a housing assignment. You do not have housing until you’ve selected a room.
For details on the full process—including requirements, waiting list information, and next steps—please visit the Applications page. Students with confirmed bookings will receive assignment emails to their Tech emails in May, which include roommate details, move-in instructions, and other important information.
- » Where can I find more information about room sizes, accessibility accommodations,
and other information about living on campus?
- From the Housing Options Overview page you can find basic room dimensions for each hall, hall amenities, rates, and photo galleries.
- The Move-In Guide provides information about what to bring to campus as well as linen, carpet, and other services.
- » Am I required to have a meal plan?
Students with a sophomore classification or higher are not required to purchase a meal plan. Meal plans remain available as an optional convenience for those who wish to participate in campus dining.
For details, visit the Tennessee Tech Dining Page.
- » Do I need insurance?
Insurance is HIGHLY recommended but not required. Tennessee Tech University does not assume responsibility for students’ personal property and is not liable for loss or damage to items anywhere on campus. To safeguard your belongings, you (or your parents) are strongly encouraged to carry personal property insurance.
You have several options:
- Homeowners Policy: Check with your insurance provider to see if your belongings are covered or if a rider can be added. This is often the vest and least expensive way.
- GradGuard: A purchase option is available directly through the housing application.
- NSSI: College Student Personal Property Insurance is available at nssi.com/portal/tennesseetech.
- » What can I bring / what’s allowed while living on Campus?
Now that I'm here...

If you are experiencing problem(s) in your room or in any public areas, please contact University Housing and Residential Life or your housing staff. A student may also choose to submit a work order online. In the event that an emergency repair is needed during the evening, holiday or weekend hours, contact the RA or Hall Director immediately.
