Temporary parking changes and power

shutoff for Johnson Hall renovation

Students, faculty and staff:

As work progresses on the renovation of Johnson Hall, home of our College of Business, please be advised of the following temporary changes:

  • A power shutoff impacting Pennebaker Hall will occur tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 16, beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing until noon. This shutoff is taking place during fall break to minimize disruption.
  • Beginning this weekend, part of the fence for the construction perimeter around Johnson Hall will be moved further out, resulting in the temporary closure of Peachtree Avenue in both directions between A Street and B Street and the loss of a small handful of gold-zoned parking spots. See an image of the impacted area below: North Peachtree Ave & Parking Closure Area

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we improve our facilities to better serve our students.

Have a safe and enjoyable fall break!

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this time.

What we are doing now

Tech’s Office of Parking and Transportation, in conjunction with campus facilities staff, are actively working to expand and rezone select parking lots in order to minimize the impact on campus parking.

Campus Shuttle

The campus shuttle routes will be impacted with the pedestrian mall project. The new routes, including where the stops will be located are available via the PassioGo! App.  Information can be found in each Shuttle Shelter or on the Parking and Transportation webpage.

Visitor Parking

The process for obtaining a visitor permit is streamlined for campus visitors. While campus departments will still need to request permits from the Office of Parking and Transportation for their official visitors, people coming to campus will be able to use their smartphone and a QR code available at visitor spots to obtain their day-use visitor permit.

Parking Garage

Tech has begun the initial planning for multiple parking garages throughout campus.  This is a lengthy process and Updates will be shared as more information becomes available.

In the spring of 2024,  the Student Government Association (SGA) conducted a Transportation, Parking, and Infrastructure (TPI) Fee Student Survey. It has now closed. With 32% of respondents in favor and 68% not in favor of the proposed fee restructure, the proposal detailed in the survey will not be implemented for the next term. Thank you for voicing your opinion in this poll, and we hope to use your input and to inform future parking proposals.
