Student Organization Officers Guide

Annual Re-Registration

Student Organizations must adopt and maintain a constitution that describes the organization’s purpose, membership, officers, and more. The University expects student organizations to adhere to the procedures and standards set forth in the organization’s constitution.

All Student Organization constitutions should conform to the Template Constitution. This ensures that all necessary elements are included, and that the organization meets the requirements of University Policy 315 – Student Organizations.

The template provides basic guidelines, but also many opportunities to customize the document to meet the needs of the organization. Officers, advisors, and members should discuss each section and seek opportunities to make the constitution align with the vision for the organization.

Affiliation with a national organization or other governing body should be described in the purpose of the organization or in a separate Article. The affiliated or governing body may have constitution criteria.

Please contact the Center for Student Engagement at engagement@tntech.edu with questions or to schedule a constitution consultation meeting.

Constitution Updates

All changes to the constitution should be made in accordance with the “Amendments” article of the current constitution. Once the organization has properly amended the documents, the student organization should email engagement@tntech.edu to request to update their constitution in Eagle Engage. The email should include a copy of the meeting minutes reflecting the organization’s action to amend the constitution.

Upon receiving this request, the organization’s status will be changed to “Requires Re-Registration" and the requesting officer will receive instructions for completing the update.
