Environmental Science Concentration
The Environmental Science concentration encompasses perspectives from a variety of fields to provide students with an interdisciplinary approach to science. Students will integrate coursework from agriculture, biology, chemistry, environmental studies, geology, mathematics and other areas to more effectively address ongoing and emerging problems in environmental science. They will be prepared to lead initiatives that require a combination of scientific knowledge with data analysis and business/economic strategies.
The Professional Science Master’s degree in Environmental Science is a 30-hour degree program. The degree requirements include:
- PSM Core Courses: 12 hours
- Environmental Science Concentration Courses: 6 hours
- Research and Thesis: 6 hours for students in the Thesis Option
- Committee-Approved Electives: 6 hours for students in the Thesis option; 12 hours for students in the Non-thesis option
- Total Degree Requirements: 30 hours
PSM Core Curriculum
- Any committee-approved graduate-level statistics course from BIOL, MATH, PRST, or PSY
- Any committee-approved graduate-level leadership course from BMGT or PRST
- ESS 6900 Professional Internship (for student in Thesis option)
- OR ESS 6910 Capstone Experience/Internship (for students in non-thesis option)
- ESS 6000 Environmental Law
- OR EVSS 6010 Environmental Social Policy
- OR WFS 5500 National Wildlife Policy
Environmental Science Concentration Course Requirements (6 credit hours)
Complete 2 of the following courses (with one course being at the 6010 level):
- EVSA 6010 – Environmental Agriculture
- EVSB 6010 – Environmental Biology
- EVSC 6010 – Environmental Chemistry
- EVSG 6010 – Environmental Geology
- EVS 7800 – Professional Development for Doctoral Students
- EVS 7900 – Scientific Writing and Grantsmanship
Note: Students entering the PSM Environmental Science concentration should have previous coursework or professional experience in Ecology; if not, then EVSB 6010 Environmental Biology will be a required course in their program of study.
Committee-Approved Electives
(6 hours for students in the Thesis option; 12 hours for students in the Non-thesis option)
- Any graduate-level courses approved by the student’s graduate advisory committee (from any 5000-, 6000-, or 7000-level course)
Thesis option students will take ESS 6990 Research and Thesis (6 credit hours).
Total Credit Hours: 30
