Eagle Assistance Grant (E.A.G.)

The Eagle Assistant Grant (E.A.G.) is an emergency fund intended to provide limited, one-time financial assistance to enrolled Tennessee Tech students who are unable to meet immediate, essential expenses because of temporary hardship related to an emergency situation. The program supports sudden, urgent, or unforeseen occurrences that require immediate attention and would impact a student's ability to stay enrolled.

This grant is administered by the Office of Financial Aid and made possible from generous donors committed to helping Tech students achieve their goal of graduating.

Decisions regarding disbursement are made on a case-by-case basis and do not require repayment. The lists below are not exhaustive and other needs may be eligible to receive emergency funds.

Eligibility Requirements

  • The student must be currently enrolled at Tennessee Tech for the term the emergency aid is being requested;
  • The student has been verified as eligible for emergency funding by the Office of Financial Aid;
    • And exhausted all federal student aid options (including student loans). Please note unwillingness to take out student loans does not constitute a financial hardship.
  • Student has demonstrated a good faith effort to explore other funding options (e.g. other eligible Financial Aid options, insurance, free or low-cost services readily available; relatives);
  • Need for assistance is not a result of the student's own actions;
  • Student has completed the E.A.G. online application explaining/proving financial hardship;
  • Pending availability of funds, priority will be given to a student who has not previously received funds from this grant.

Possible Student Emergency Expenses Covered

  • Emergency housing expenses
  • Essential utilities (e.g. electric, gas, water)
  • Safety and security needs (example: changing locks, moving costs, travel to court)
  • Replacement of essential personal belongings due to natural disaster, fire, theft, or other unforeseen circumstance
  • Non-reimbursed, out-of-pocket prescription and other costs related to medical or mental health care and their associated travel costs
  • Financial needs arising from an unexpected emergency, accident, or other unexpected critical incidents

Student Expenses Not Covered

  • Tuition and student fees
  • Health insurance
  • Food - see Tech's Food Pantry
  • Continuous fixed expenses (e.g. rent)
  • Study abroad costs
  • Non-essential utilities (internet, cable, cell phone)
  • Household furniture unrelated to damage or theft
  • Costs of entertainment, recreation, or non-emergency travel
  • Legal counsel and fees
  • Parking tickets

The number of students who can be served by the Eagle Assistance Grant is subject to the availability of funds. The fund must be sustained by continual contributions from alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends of the University.
