2+2 Program: Teacher Education Admission Requirements


Candidates who have completed an Associate's (AST) degree through a community college will have completed some requirements previously in order to obtain that degree.

Candidates MUST provide documentation (such as an official transcript) that an AST has been awarded and have passing scores on the ACT or Praxis Core.

2+2 Intent to Participate Due

2) April 20

Application to the Teacher Education Program (TEP) Due **Must be admitted to Tennessee Tech to complete**

Background Check Requirements Due

3) June 15

Deadline to complete a 2+2 Program Interview. 

4) June 15

Deadline to submit all requirements for full admission to the TEP (final transcripts with a conferred degree must be received by the Office of Teacher Education).

5) August 11

Step 1 / Complete and Submit the 2+2 Intent to Participate by March 1st

STEP 2 / Apply to TEP by April 20

Students MUST be admitted to Tennessee Tech and have a T-Number (student ID number) to complete the Teacher Education Program (TEP) application.

STEP 3 / Complete the Background Check Process by April 20

Complete the required Tennessee Tech Background Check and Fingerprinting process through IdentoGO by MorphoTrust USA. This process is a requirement must be completed through the Office of Teacher Education (no exceptions).

Complete/submit the following two (2) forms (physical/hard-copy signatures required on both forms):

Cardscan Processing: If you reside outside of Tennessee or are unable to visit an IdentoGo location, you can complete the fingerprinting process via Cardscan Processing.

STEP 4 / Complete These Course Requirements

ENGL 1010 and 1020 or equivalent with a C or higher.
FOED2050 or equivalent with a B or higher.

STEP 5 / Complete the Interview Process*

The purpose of the interview process is for the Office of Teacher Education staff to gain knowledge of a teacher candidate’s ability to perform in a professional setting, provide insight into the candidate's understanding of the profession, and also giving candidates interview experience. 

*The interview process will be completed virtually via Zoom; 2+2 candidates will be receiving more information regarding the interview process via email. Please contact cmharris@tntech.edu for more information.

STEP 6 / Complete the Disposition Process by June 15

You must list two instructors as "raters": one education instructor and one content area instructor. If you are uncertain about which instructors to use, please contact cmharris@tntech.edu for guidance. 

AST candidates are exempt from the Tennessee Tech disposition process since they are required through your community college for degree completion. Please be sure to have your transcript showing your conferred AST sent to Tennessee Tech.

STEP 7 / Meet the 2.75 GPA Requirement

 

STEP 8 / Meet Testing Requirements (ACT, SAT, or Praxis Core)

Admission to the TEP requires passing scores on one (1) of the following three (3) exams:

a) A superscore of 21 or higher on the ACT
An ACT superscore is calculated by averaging your highest attempts for each section of the exam. You must select Tennessee Tech University as a score recipient for Tech to receive a copy of your results.

The ACT recipient code for Tennessee Tech is 4012.

b) A score of 1080 or higher on the SAT
Reading, Writing & Language, and Math sections only; essay is optional. You must select Tennessee Tech University as a score recipient for Tech to receive a copy of your results.

c) Submit passing Praxis CORE test scores for the "Core Academic Skills for Educators" - see SCORE for requirement(s):

The Praxis CORE combined exam (5752) is also available, which includes all three sections of the exam (Reading, Math, and Writing).
