Economics at Tennessee Tech: Explaining Markets, Shaping Policy
Economics holds the key to understanding how choices are made and resources are allocated. At Tennessee Tech, our economics program gives you the tools to understand this process and the skills to apply that knowledge to real-world challenges in business, government, and research.
STEM-Designated Excellence & Experiential Learning
As the state’s only STEM-designated undergraduate economics program, Tennessee Tech offers a rigorous curriculum that blends critical thinking with technical skills. You’ll master forecasting, policy evaluation, and quantitative methods through hands-on experiences across the program. In our College of Business Behavioral Research Lab, you’ll design experiments, analyze data, and test economic theories in practice.
Students gain real-world experience through the TVA Investment Challenge, managing actual investment portfolios and implementing trading strategies like professional money managers. Research opportunities with faculty allow you to pursue summer grants, attend conferences, and contribute to economic scholarship alongside experienced mentors.
Professional Networks & Recognition
Connect with economics professionals through the Society for the Advancement of Finance and Economics (SAFE), which links students to internships and research opportunities. High-achieving students can join Omicron Delta Epsilon, the international honor society for economics. Alpha Kappa Psi provides professional development and networking across business disciplines.
Students also create and host the “Everyone Loves Economics” podcast, researching economic issues and interviewing Tennessee Tech economists to share insights with the broader community.
